The free severe weather embed
Put live severe weather
on your site, free.
One script tag shows your visitors the recent hail and wind cells near any zip or point: cell name, hail size, gusts, and how long ago. Roofers, restoration crews, local news, HOAs, storm chasers, anyone. No account, no API key, no cookies, no analytics.
One tag · one request · fails silent · attribution link stays
What it is
One tag. The last sweep. Honest.
01
Paste one script tag.
Any site, any stack. It is a single dependency-free file that renders its own small dark panel exactly where you paste it, inside a Shadow DOM, so your CSS never touches it and it never touches yours.
02
It reads the last sweep near your point.
Give it a zip, or a latitude and longitude, plus a radius in miles. It asks the Canvass Pro storm feed for the severe cells that recently crossed that area and shows up to three, strongest first.
03
It never invents a storm.
A quiet sweep says "No severe cells in the last sweep." And if the feed cannot be reached at all, the widget renders nothing rather than something stale or fake. Your page never breaks and never lies.
Install
Live in a minute.
Point it at your area, copy the tag, paste it where the panel should sit. Done.
<script src="https://canvasspro.io/embed/hail.js" data-lat="32.9" data-lng="-96.8" data-radius="80" async></script>
Live preview · the real widget, real feed
This is the actual widget, calling the actual feed. If the sweep near the configured point is quiet, it honestly says so. The panel stays dark on any site, light or dark. The preview needs JavaScript; so does the widget, it is one.
| Attribute | What it does |
|---|---|
| data-lat, data-lng | Decimal degrees. The point the sweep centers on. Takes priority over the zip when both are set. |
| data-zip | A five digit US zip, used when lat and lng are absent. Geocoded in the visitor's browser via OpenStreetMap Nominatim. |
| data-radius | Search radius in miles around the point. Default 80, clamped between 5 and 250. |
| async | Keep it. The widget never blocks your page, and on any failure it renders nothing at all. |
Fair use
Free, with one ask.
Keep the attribution link.
The panel carries one small line, "Storm data by Canvass Pro." That link is the whole deal: the feed is free for any site, commercial or not, as long as the line stays visible.
Why it is free.
Incumbents sell weather back to you. SalesRabbit prices its Weather add-on at $19 to $31 per user per month on top of a seat (salesrabbit.com/pricing, fetched 2026-08-04). We publish the sweep free because the map that routes it is the product, not the weather.
The data, honestly.
Cells come from the Vyan Storm feed, built on National Weather Service severe weather reporting, the same feed behind the Canvass Pro storm map. It is a recent-sweep summary for context, not a warning system: for watches and warnings, rely on weather.gov.
No SLA, no tracking, be reasonable.
The widget sets no cookies and runs no analytics on your visitors. The feed is cached and served best-effort with no uptime promise, and we may throttle traffic that hammers it. If you need keys, caps, and support, use the API instead.
When it hits, route it
The widget shows the storm.
The map knocks it.
Canvass Pro turns the same feed into a routed knock list the hour a swath lands: every home scored 0 to 99, best doors first, every knock logged offline. Free to start, no card, one seat is one person.
The full scored map is free forever. Paid plans start at $49 per seat a month.
